Abdullah Sik, World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh, held a farewell meeting with Senior Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus. The meeting was held on Monday evening (December 23) at Rashtriya Guest House, Yamuna. The press wing of the Chief Advisor reported this information.
The senior advisor expressed his gratitude to Sik, who retired in January, saying that under his leadership Bangladesh has achieved success in key sectors such as infrastructure, climate change resilience, digitalization of service operations, education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation with support from the World Bank. .
Sik said the World Bank on December 19 approved three financings worth about $1.2 billion to develop climate resilience, environmental sustainability, health, nutrition, water and sanitation services in Chittagong city.
Earlier, on Sunday, two financing agreements were signed between the Department of Economic Relations and the World Bank. The value of the two deals is $90 million in financing.
Sik also mentioned that since 1972, the World Bank has financed Bangladesh’s development with about $4.5 billion. This financing has played an important role in reducing poverty, ensuring sustainable economic growth, education, health and disaster management.
He pledged the World Bank’s continued support for the important reform initiatives undertaken by the interim government in Bangladesh.

During the meeting, the meeting was attended by the Special Envoy of the Senior Advisor Lutfi Siddiqui, the First Secretary for Sustainable Development Goals Affairs Lamia Murshid, and the Secretary of Human Resources Department Dr. Senior officers including Sheheryar Qadir Siddiqui were present.
