Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with new Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa in Damascus on Sunday (December 22). In this meeting, Fidan promised to support political change in the country and the reconstruction of war-torn Syria. The Qatari Al Jazeera channel reported this news.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed to establish stability in Syria. They also stressed the lifting of international sanctions on Syria.

Fidan said, in a joint press conference, that Türkiye will be by your side. We hope that Syria’s dark days are over and that brighter days are on the horizon. He called for the immediate lifting of international sanctions, and said that the international community must be active in helping Syria return and return the displaced.
Al-Sharaa took power after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government two weeks ago. He called on the international community to lift sanctions on Syria, saying that the war was over. Exploitation is over. Everyone here now were victims of exploitation. So the restrictions should be lifted soon.
He also said that the previous regime had been in power in Syria for nearly 50 years. Many restrictions were imposed in the 1970s. But they are no longer like that. Therefore, they must withdraw quickly and Syria be allowed to move forward.
During the meeting, the drafting of a new constitution, the protection of Syrian minorities, the refugee problem, the Israeli invasion, and the issue of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units were discussed.
