BGB has been accused of misappropriating Indian cows recovered from smuggling at Romari border in Kurigram. Such activities by some members of the force sparked criticism in the region. The incident took place on Saturday (December 21) at Dantabhanga BGB camp in the upazila. Local witnesses claimed that the camp company commander, Kaishar Amir, was involved in the embezzlement of cows. According to border sources, BGB forces raided Zahirur Rahman’s house at Char Jaitapara village in Dantabhanga union of upazila on Saturday morning on the allegation of cross-border smuggling of Indian cows. Zuhair fled after news of the raid. BGB members at Dantabhanga BGB camp rescued 9 Indian cows from Zaheer’s house and took them to the camp. BGB later showed the recovery of 8 cows in the seized list and presented them to Romari Customs. The estimated value of the confiscation of the eight seized cows is Tk 10,000 and 40,000.
Mizanur Rahman, UP member of Ward No. 3 of Dantabhanga Union Parishad, said, “BGB seized 9 Indian cows smuggled from Zaheer’s house that day and took them to the camp. I personally was present there during the raid. I later heard that they kept one cow in the camp They presented eight cows to customs.
A local journalist from Romari, who did not want to reveal his name, said: “I was present when the rescued Indian cows were taken to the camp. I myself saw 9 cows. But later, the BGB showed one less cow and gave it to customs on the Caesar list. Here The guard is the eater!”
However, the BGB Company Commander claims that there is a 10 percent retention rule. Although the BGB could not show any legal basis for this.
When asked about the complaint, Subedar Kaishar Amir, company commander of Dantabhanga BGB camp, said, “You are speaking in meetings. There is a rule to keep 10 percent of rescue cows. Jamalpur called the manager of BGB Battalion Number 35 and hung up. Later, he became the assistant director (acting assistant) of the battalion. When he learned that there was a video of nine cows being transported to the camp, Shamsul Haq said: “Okay, keep them.” He said this and disconnected the phone.
Muhammad Ghulam Hossain, bonded warehouse officer of Rumari Customs, said: “8 Indian cows were handed over to customs by BGB camp authorities with broken teeth. Those cows showed a price of BGB Caesar Tk 10,000 and Tk 40,000. When asked about the 10% retention rule, he said : “I don’t know if there is such a rule in BGB law.”
