The great scholar Qamar al-Din Gorakhpuri of Deoband passed away

Allama Qamar al-Din Ahmad Gorakhpuri, a veteran hadith teacher and famous teacher of the traditional Darul Uloom Deoband of the Indian subcontinent (Inna Allah wa Inna ilahi Razayun) has passed away. He died at the age of 90 at around 7am local time on Sunday (December 22). Alamgir Danish, Mufti of Islamia University Banjari, Pithampur, Indore, confirmed the death.

Qamar Uddin Ahmed Gorakhpuri was born in Gorakhpur district in the state of Uttar Pradesh, India. He completed his primary education at Ehaul Uloom Madrasa Mubarakpur and Darul Uloom Mau. He obtained the Hadith Daura Sanad from Dar Al Uloom Deoband in 1957.

He had been suffering from illness for days and was undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Gorakhpuri began teaching at Darul Uloom Deoband since 1966. During his long teaching career, he held many important positions including Nazim Tulaimat, Academic Director, and Controller of Darul Uloom Deoband.

Mufti Imranul Bari Sirazi, preacher of Gulistan Pir Jamia Mosque and head of the Bangladesh National Parishad, in the capital, Dhaka, expressed his deep sorrow and condolences over his death.
