Sargis Alam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, left the responsibility of the July Shaheed Smriti Foundation. He provided the information himself in a post on his verified Facebook profile on Wednesday morning (January 22).
“I am not in charge of the Secretary General of Jalai Shaheed Smriti Foundation. In order to accelerate the speed of this institution, changes have been made in the constitution, structure and working process of the institution. Henceforth, the Executive Committee will be responsible for managing the general affairs of the entire office,” Sargis wrote in a Facebook post. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will be heading the office there. Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdeh is currently the CEO.
Pointing out that the “administrative body” will work in policy making for the institution, he said that it is the chief advisor to the administrative body. Muhammad Yunus and advisors from the Ministry of Health, Social Care, Local Government and ICT.
Sargis Alam also mentioned that there is no position called “General Secretary” in the institution. He said: “The Foundation began its first financial support on October 1, and the office opened on October 15. I took charge as Secretary-General on October 21. I performed my duties for 2 months and 10 days until December 31st. Then I submitted my resignation. I finally transferred signature authority on January 7 and officially finished my duties.
Of the 826 families of martyrs verified as of December 31, 628 were granted financial support. Apart from this, out of the 11,000 verified infections, financial support is being provided to around 2,000 injured people.
Sargis Alam said: “As long as I was able to give the institution the maximum amount of my time, I did my duty. When it seemed to me that it would not be possible for me to devote the necessary time to the institution, I resigned. For me, it is not a weakness for one to address one’s limitations and accept responsibility or give up.” about it accordingly, but it takes honest courage.
