UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi said that his organization will help Bangladesh find a lasting solution to the Rohingya crisis.
He made the comment after his meeting with Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum meeting in Davos, Switzerland on Tuesday (January 21).
At the meeting, the Senior Advisor requested UNHCR’s support for the Rohingya crisis. In particular, he also reported that a major international conference on the Rohingya crisis will be organized at the end of this year.
In response, Filippo Grandi said: “We are ready to cooperate with you.”
Addressing the High Commissioner, Professor Yunus said: “You have to be more critical of this matter.”
Professor Yunus urged the world to focus on the Rohingya crisis and said that the arrival of nearly 100,000 new Rohingya has increased the burden on Bangladesh.

Filippo Grandi thanked the chief advisor for allowing the use of advanced materials in building shelters for the Rohingya. Earlier, the Rohingya were only allowed to build shelters out of bamboo and tarpaulin.
During the meeting, they also discussed the humanitarian situation in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, where the Arakan Army rebel group is fighting the Myanmar army. The chief advisor said that he has appointed a high representative for the Rohingya crisis and is coordinating between all governments and international organizations.
