Graffiti drawing of Siraj Sikder back at DU

Leaders and activists from various leftist student organizations are redrawing Siraj Sikdar’s writings, which were deleted by a group of students on January 18, due to a Facebook post by Dhaka Sangsad University president Meghmala Basu, related to terrorism Lal.

They started this mural on Tuesday (January 21) from 8 pm with the slogan “Comrade Siraj Sikdar, Lo Lo Lo Salam”. At that time, besides the leaders and activists of several leftist student organizations affiliated with the Student Democratic Alliance, ordinary students were also present there.

Regarding Siraj Sikder’s writings, Jabir Ahmad Goble, general secretary of Biplabally Chhatra Maitri, told Bangla Tribune: “After the coup, Siraj Sikder’s writings were drawn on the collective initiative of students. Siraj Sikder has always opposed Pakistani hegemony, as well as Indian hegemony. But after the war Tahrir Siraj Sikdar was killed by Sheikh Mujib in an exchange of fire.

He said that after the coup, this wall was painted with Siraj Sikdar’s image due to students’ anger. But a certain group deleted this photo in protest. But now again the students who earlier painted Siraj Sikdar’s picture are drawing again.

Democratic Students Council president Nishan Ahmad told Bangla Tribune that Comrade Siraj Sikdar led the group that fought most of the proletarian workers representing their class during the liberation war. But Siraj Sikder was the first victim of extrajudicial killing after independence.

He said that Siraj Sikdar’s struggle will continue in this country until Bangladesh is freed from exploitation. To keep his spirit alive, we have preserved his graffiti at different times. However, a few days ago, a group that claims to lead the mass movement, but does not carry the aspirations of the mass movement, removed the Siraj Sikdar logo after a statement by one of the student leaders. It’s not just about erasing photos, it’s a plan to erase Siraj Sikdar’s soul. Our fight against those who try to erase this spirit will continue.

It may be noted that on January 18, students protested in the middle of the night over a Facebook post by Megmalar Bose, president of the Dhaka University Students Union. At some point, they threw shoes at Siraj Sikdar’s painting on the side wall of DU Central Library and removed the painting.
