Accidents are occurring at some places on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway due to dense fog. One person was killed. At least 15 people were injured.
The incidents occurred in Shikarpur, Nimtala, Hansara and Chaltipara Tunnel areas on the expressway between dawn and 7:30 am on Sunday (December 22). Seven buses and a private car were damaged.
According to the highway police, the truck heading from Dhaka to Mawa broke down on the Kansas Highway Tunnel early in the morning and collided with another truck from behind. Later, another bus came and collided with the truck.
Meanwhile, Sakura Paribahan was hit by a covered truck in Nimtala Shikarpur Tunnel area in the morning. Then several other vehicles including a bus and a private car came from behind and collided. A person named Farhad Hussein was seriously injured. He was later shifted to Srinagar Health Complex where doctors declared him brought dead. Apart from this, at least 15 other people were injured in these incidents.

One of them, Farhad, died before being taken to the hospital, while the other, Zakir Hussain, was sent to Dhaka Salimullah Medical College Hospital to receive first aid,” Marzia said.
Highway police sources said that the vehicles were driving with their headlights on and moving slowly as the highway was covered in thick fog. Fog has been covering the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway since Sunday morning. It causes disruption to vehicle movement.
