Two people, including the driver, were killed when a train collided with a battery-powered auto-rickshaw at an unprotected railway crossing at Raipura in Narsingdi.
The accident occurred on Sunday (January 19) around 8:30 pm at the unprotected railway crossing at Amirganj Railway Station on the Dhaka-Chittagong railway line. The details of the deceased were not known. However, locals said they are neighbors to each other.
Railway police and local residents said that the railway crossing of Amirganj railway station remained unprotected for a long time. There are no guards. A van carrying passengers was crossing the railway crossing on Sunday evening. At that time, the Cox’s Bazar Express heading to Dhaka from Chittagong collided with the rickshaw, causing it to buckle. The rickshaw driver and his passenger were killed instantly. The railway police recovered the body at around 10pm and sent it to the morgue.
Narsindi Railway Police official Zahirul Islam (SI) told Bangla Tribune that the railway crossing was unguarded. This accident occurred when the auto rickshaw crossed the railway crossing carelessly. The two bodies were recovered and sent to the morgue. Efforts are being made to identify them.
