The BNP-backed Bar Samana Oikya committee won unopposed in the Chandpur district bar association elections. 15 people from the Babar Bebari – Jassim Mehdi – Atiq committee won.
On Sunday afternoon (January 19), District Bar Association Chief Election Commissioner and District Bar Association President Anim Mainul Islam announced the new committee to the lawyers present. District Bar Association Assistant Election Commissioner, junior vice president Shahjahan Akhand and Assistant Election Commissioner and Joint Secretary Sharif Mehmood Saim were with him at that time.
According to the election schedule, Sunday was the day for submitting objections, hearing objections, and withdrawing nomination papers. In the end, since no candidate withdrew, the Chief Electoral Commissioner declared the submitted Consensus Committee candidates the winner.
When asked, Mainul Islam, Chief Election Commissioner of the District Bar Association and President of the District Lawyers Association, said that today is the last day to submit nomination papers. A committee of candidates has submitted nomination forms so far. The deadline for withdrawing nomination papers was also today. Since the committee submitted nomination papers and did not withdraw, the committee was declared non-opposed for good reason.
Responsibility will be handed over to them on January 23.
Those who were elected unopposed are – Like-Minded Lawyers Unit Committee Chairman Muhammad Babar Bibari, Senior Vice President Manjoor Alam Chowdhury, Junior Vice President Maryland. Farid Ahmed Mia (Ribon), Secretary-General. Jasimuddin (Mehdi Hasan), Joint Editor Muhammad Atiqur Rahman, Editor, Forms Md. Kamal Hossain, Abdul Qadir Khan Library Editor, Social Welfare and Seminar Editor Shahadat Sarkar Shawn, Auditor General MD. Kamal Hussein, Auditor Muhammad Muslim Miyazi, Chairman of the Registration Authority. Sanjid Hassan (Sony), Registration Board Editor Mohiuddin Fahad, Registration Board Members Kamrul Hassan Pradhan, Tanzir Ahmed (Mamun) and Abdul Qadir Jilani (Milton).
It may be noted that in the Chandpur District Bar Association elections, the Advocates Joint Coordination Council (Awame Panthi) decided to boycott the elections considering the current situation and environment. Muhammad Zahirul Islam, joint convener of the Chandpur Lawyers’ Joint Coordination Council, provided this information in a circular dated January 16.
