Pro-Awami League lawyers won most of the posts including president and general secretary in the Sylhet District Bar Association elections. Pro-BNP lawyers also took some positions.
Chief Election Commissioner Syed Muhammad Tariq announced the results of the 2025 annual elections early Friday morning (January 17) after counting the votes.
Before that, the voting process was held on Thursday from 10 am to 4.30 pm. Out of 1,850 voters, 1,460 lawyers exercised their right to vote. 65 candidates competed for 26 positions in the elections.
Awami League president Sarwar Ahmed Chowdhury Abdul was elected as Sylhet city ward number 15 president with 770 votes, and Zubair Bakhat Zuber, former district Chhatra League legal secretary, was elected general secretary with 330 votes.
Other positions include Jyotirmoy Purkayastha (Kanchan) of the Awami League as first vice-president, Mukhleshwar Rahman of the BNP as second vice-president, lawyer Ahidur Rahman Chowdhury of the Awami League as first joint secretary, and lawyer Roop Niwaz Rana of the BNP as second vice-president.
