22,000 metric tons of Atap rice came from Myanmar

A ship named MV Golden Star arrived at Chittagong port carrying 22,000 metric tons of Attap rice imported from Myanmar on G2G basis. This is the first rice shipment imported from Myanmar under the current interim government.

This information was reported in a press release sent by the Ministry of Food on Friday (January 17).

The notification said that after collecting the rice samples stored in the ship and after physical examination, rapid release work will begin. The necessary measures were taken to do so.

Earlier on Thursday (January 16), the country’s Arakan Army rebel group seized two cargo boats carrying goods at the mouth of the Naf Nadir River on their way to the Teknaf land port in Cox’s Bazar of Yangon, Myanmar. The Arakan Army intercepted two cargo boats on the Nakxiongdia border of Bangladesh and Myanmar.

The general manager of United Land Port Limited, the managing company of Teknaf Land Port, told Bangla Tribune. Jassimuddin Chowdhury. “Three shipments carrying goods from Myanmar were supposed to arrive at the Teknaf land port today,” he said. But the Arakan Army may release them on Friday morning.

On December 8, the country’s armed group, the Arakan Army, took control of Maungdaw town in Rakhine State. They also captured the last Border Battalion No. 5. Since then no cargo ships have arrived in Teknaf from Myanmar. The last cargo ship from Yangon arrived in Teknaf on 3 December.

Some port businessmen said that the Teknaf land port was closed due to the conflict in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. They added that after more than a month, three shipments left from Yangon to Teknaf. At around 12 noon on Thursday, the Arakan Army intercepted two shipments in Naikxiangdia at the mouth of the Naf Nadir River. On this news, the other shipment docked on the island of Saint Martin. The two intercepted shipments contained more than 30,000 bags of goods. There are many commodities including pickles, betel nuts and betel nuts. An official at the Teknaf land port told the Bangla Tribune on condition of anonymity: “Basically, since the Arakan Army took control of Maungdaw town in Rakhine State, cargo ships have stopped coming to the Teknaf land port. They have detained two cargoes on their way from Yangon.”
