A child died in a fire in a Rohingya camp, and hundreds of homes burned

A five-year-old boy died in a fire accident at Mochni registered Rohingya camp in Nayapara, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. But the identity of the dead child was not immediately identified.

Abdul Hanan, Administrator (Joint Secretary) of Nayapara Camp Registered in Teknaf, confirmed that more than a hundred houses were burnt in Block G of Nayapara Mushni Camp at around 11.30pm on Thursday (January 16).

He said: There was a sudden fire in the camp. Later, firefighters arrived with the residents and the fire was brought under control. A five-year-old child died at this time. Moreover, about a hundred houses were burned. Further details into this incident are being investigated.

Nayapara recorded the Rohingya camp in Maryland. Mustafa said: A child died while sleeping in the fire. Moreover, 100 houses were burned. Homeless people will be at great risk during the winter. It is not possible to say how the fire occurred.

Meanwhile, the BGB says at least 300 homes have been burned. BGB also said it is working on this incident.

Deputy Inspector General Muhammad Kausar Sikder, commander of the 16th Armed Police Battalion, said that a Rohingya child died in the camp due to the fire. His name was not found.

He also said: “A sudden fire broke out in the living room of a person in Building P-3 of Nayapara Muchni registered camp in Teknaf.” The fire immediately spread to surrounding homes and buildings. At that time, local Rohingya, in cooperation with APBN police, attempted to control the fire. After receiving information, two units from the Teknaf Fire Service Station arrived at the scene and began working to control the fire. After about an hour of effort, the fire was brought under control. At least hundreds of residential homes and various buildings were destroyed in the fire accident.
