In Savar, a fire broke out as a result of a gas cylinder explosion in a collision between a bus and an ambulance. Four people died.
The accident occurred on Thursday (January 9) at around 2 am in the Police Town area on the Dhaka-Arisha Highway. But the names and identities of the victims were not immediately known.
Firefighter Rubel from Savar Fire Service said the fire occurred after a collision between an ambulance and two buses at around 2am. Two units of the Savar Fire Service quickly arrived at the scene.
Meharul, warehouse manager at Savar Fire Service, said the fire was brought under control around 2:50 p.m. But as the fire spread due to the explosion of the ambulance’s gas cylinder, the four occupants of the ambulance were burned to death.
First, an ambulance collided with a bus on the Dhaka-bound road, causing a gas cylinder to explode and the bus to catch fire. The fire later spread to another bus behind that bus.
“Initially we know that four people in the ambulance died, but efforts are continuing to find out more details,” said Sugtul Alam, in-charge of Savar Highway Police Station.
