The upcoming elections will be completely free and fair: Senior Advisor – Bangladeshi Diplomat

The next general elections in Bangladesh will be completely free and fair, the interim government’s chief advisor said. Muhammad Younis.

He said this during a meeting with British MP Rupa Haq at Rashtriya Yamuna Guest House on Saturday (January 4). The meeting was attended by James Goldman, Deputy High Commissioner and Director of Development at the British High Commission in Dhaka.

The chief advisor said people were unable to vote in the last three elections. There was a fake parliament, a fake representative, and a fake president.

He said that the people of the country have now regained their voice. Their votes were forcefully extracted.

At that time, British MP Rupa Haque wanted to know about the possible date of the next general elections, the reform initiatives taken by the interim government in Bangladesh, and the process of political party participation. Apart from this, Rupa Haque said, “I was really encouraged by the vision of New Bangladesh.”

The senior advisor said there are two possible time frames for the next general elections. One in December 2025 or mid-2026. But the date of the elections depends on the extent of reform that the people want.

He highlighted the causes of the July uprising and the oppression to which the people were subjected during the reign of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Later, Rupa Haque expressed her desire to return to Bangladesh to monitor the upcoming elections.
