BPA will sell eggs and chicken at a fair price at 100 points in the capital around Ramadan

The egg market has been volatile for most of last year. The price of a dozen eggs rose to Rs 180. Even after prices were set, the market was not controlled. However, the market stabilized somewhat when import of 18 crore eggs was allowed in November. With the beginning of the new year, the price of eggs increased by five rupees per dozen again. The price of broiler chickens also increased. In such a situation, the Bangladesh Poultry Association (BPA) has taken the initiative to sell eggs, chicken and agricultural products at 100 points in Dhaka at fair prices on the occasion of Ramadan.

BPA Chairman Sumon Hawladhar gave this information at a press conference organized at the Dhaka Reporters Unit (DRU) on Saturday afternoon (January 4).

“On the occasion of the upcoming Ramadan, through smart market management, eggs, frozen chicken and other agricultural products will start being sold at a fair price at 20 points in Dhaka city from January 12 and thereafter at 100 points,” he said. Moreover, skilled people and entrepreneurs will join the BPA supply chain. For example, there are some bright students studying at Dhaka University who want to work with the agricultural sector and the interests of consumers and producers. Through their experience and enthusiasm, this initiative will be more effective, which will accelerate the development of the country’s agricultural sector and market management.

“Companies are making additional profits of around Rs 6 lakh crore through sale of feed and chicks,” the BPA chief complained. Because their hands control the market, the prices of chicken and eggs do not fall. The union cannot be broken.

He also said: Despite the decline in feed prices on the global market, this affects chicken prices. I advocate for inclusion of marginal farmers in government policy making meeting.

Suman Holdar also demanded ensuring supply of fodder and chicks at reasonable prices to farmers. At the press conference, she put forward 10-point demands to the government to take the sustainability of marginal farmers out of the hands of the union.
