Hundreds injured in clashes over mosque funds

 

Hundreds were injured in a clash between two parties over money from a mosque in Habiganj. Nearly 50 seriously injured people were shifted to Sadar District Modern Hospital. The incident took place in Tungarghat village of Tigaria Union in Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.

According to local sources, there is a dispute over Tk 14,000 for the Jama Masjid in Tungarghat village. Between Tayyab Allah and Haj Maya. Since there is no committee for the mosque at the moment, Hajj Miah wants to use this money to develop the mosque. One party, including Taybullah, wants to keep this money in the bank. A meeting was held in Tongerghat village on Friday evening.

During that meeting, quarrels and fights took place between them. For this reason, the two sides clashed on Saturday with local weapons. Of the hundreds injured in the clash, nearly 50 people were taken to hospital with serious injuries. First aid was provided to others.

Alamgir Kabir, commander of Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station, said: “Two parties clashed over the mosque’s funds. The police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. At present, the situation in that area is calm.”

The OC said that after receiving the complaint, necessary action will be taken against the culprits of the incident.
