Outgoing President Joe Biden received newly elected US President Donald Trump at the White House. Monday In welcoming Trump to the White House, Biden said: “Welcome home.”
The two presidents did not respond to journalists’ questions. They entered the White House together.
Earlier, in response to a question about his feelings, Biden said: “Good.” Today is his last day in the White House.
Trump and Biden will meet for tea at the White House. This meeting will be closed. Journalists will not be able to get there.
This tea circle tradition began in 1837 under Presidents Martin Van Buren and Andrew Jackson. But in 2021, Trump did not invite Biden to tea. He broke with this tradition by declaring his victory in the 2020 election.
Earlier, Vice President-elect J.D. Vance was welcomed to the White House by outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris.
Before heading to the White House, Trump and Vance attended a prayer service at St. John’s Church in Washington with the family.
